Ficelle is a pretty French-inspired bakery that shares the same management of the hugely successful Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie at Jalan Delima, folks in Taman Desa can not only access to delicious pastries and bakeries, but also simple and quick dishes like soups and pastas. On those days with good sunlight and chilly breeze, the lovely ambience and settings at the Ficelle makes it even greater to dine in.
I had my eye on their desserts and this tea time review begins with <Japanese Strawberry shortcake. The layer of colours already projects happiness. Call me simple minded but everybody is attracted to pretty looking things. Alas, it was not fresh despite the pretty presentation.
Because it is refrigerated prior to serving, expect them to be a little dry on the outside, or the top or outer layer. The Profiteroles has got those awesome puffs on top and the good thing for the rich filling inside those creampuffs, pop in the entire puff and chew it to balance the dry surface of the puff.
Beneath this one is superbly delicious. Not too sweet and great texture from a mix of cake and mousse with very delicious bitter sweet chocolate flavour so it doesn’t get relentless dulcified by the time you hit the bottom.
Inside, there is some chocolate chunks so within the smooth mousse texture; there is the cake and some hard chunk of crunchiness from the chocolate pieces.
For something not too sweet, try the Mont Blanc. It is something that is cleverly done and this genius creation uses lots of processed chestnuts. Tasting exactly like the sweet Japanese chestnuts (those of which is packed and ready to eat), it is not hard to identify the ingredients in this dessert. With the chewy texture on top, the rest of it was balanced off with smoother textures.
The Tiramisu is not something to brag about since it’s not fresh when served. I reckoned the freshness heavily depends on the popularity of that particular item as well.
Le sultana here is really pretty and the presentation definitely is overwhelming. I didn’t fancy the cream layers but the good chocolates in the ingredient is an admirable factor.
Speaking of chocolate, the Hokkaido Choco Soufflé( RM 4) is something lighter to satisfy the chocolate crave.
I recommend washing of some of that sweetness with some coffee or tea. My pick is of course the Jasmine Green tea.
Lastly, there is more than just dessert that is great. The pastry and bread loafs are equally as popular as take outs.
Anything from cakes to cookies and jams to macaroons, they are all nicely arranged in a tiny yet compactly pleasant looking shop.
Like their sister cafés Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie and Shakespeare , this one is also nicely decorated with some greens around the café. Dining is perfectly calm with all the greens around us.

Thanks for reminding me about this place. I do love the one in Jalan Delima.
Actually, I prefer that…I find that one neater and cleaner….
lovely! havent tried this yet but looks like I need too….
Weekdays tea time…not bad, quite relaxing..go check it out.
wahh….so many pretty desserts! The puff filling is so full.
I see the price of whole cake(medium size cake) not very expensive also.
Mel, the prices are ok. If you happened to be around that area, can check it out.
The desserts look sooooooooo good, especially the puff, craving for one right now T.T
Lol, go get some nice puffs at kee’s creampuff.
yay for profiteroles! the ones in your pic look good. i like those with lotsa fresh, soft filling 😀
Yup, the puffs were undeniably good when there is so much fillings in it.
Used to visit this quite often initially. Now its only if we send one of the cars for a car wash behind the Ficelle. A tad disappointed with their savoury stuff. Serving size is never certain. tried ordering the same dish within 10 minutes of each other and we get a good laugh at the portion or even in the seafood aglio olio, the number of seafood in it. imagine 6 mussels versus 3 musses.
These days we camp at casa del cocco not too far away.
Oh ….that’s a bit unacceptable. 3 versus 6 is way off..
I’m thinking of doing a roadtrip some time up to Malaysia – this one looks like another good’n to check out!
I love road trips. This may not be exactly worthy for some one who is travelling. They are pretty similar to what you get in any bakery cafe. Unless if it is a very laid back trip, then perhaps you won’t mind making your way there. I’ll take you there when you are here. 🙂
will let you know if/when we do it!
Okay!
