Renowned Astralian brand Jacob’s Creek recently launched its most recent blend of red wine- the Double Barrel for both the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Both the Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel have been finished in aged whiskey barrels to add another layer of complexity and texture to traditionally barreled beverages.
During their exclusive experimental food and wine pairing dinner themed “Jacob’s Creek Gourmet Picnic”, these new varieties were flowing on our dining table along with plenty of nodding and agreement to the array of experiences. At the same time, learning about scent notes from pieces of the actual Double Barrel at the picnic themed “nose station”. With the long-standing tradition of wine and cuisines, Brand Ambassador, Jenny Rothenberg guided guests through an experiential food pairing session of the cuisine and Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel. “Each barrel performs differently, so it took time to understand the true effect on the drink, and achieve a result that was perfectly balanced,” explains Jenny Rothenberg.
The night started with appetizer being served and pairing with Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir. Both the Pan-seared French Foie Gras and White Truffle Pumpkin Potage Soup were lusciously rich and integrated fairly well with the white.
Aperitif were lovely but the spotlight is on the Double Barrel pair- the Shiraz and Carbernet Sauvignon reds that have been finished in aged whiskey barrels to add another layer of complexity and texture to traditionally barreled beverages. Entrée serves the Smoke Turkey Drumstick and while poultry has that ability to go with a variety of different blends, this one is remarkably lovely when the Shiraz meets the tact spicy sauce that accompanies the turkey.
Mains came with option of either the Poached Lobster with Truffle Garlic Oil or Pan-seared Wagyu – Marbling Rade 9. Since they ran out of Lobster, I get a seafood platter of oyster, clams and tiger prawns. The classic pairing of Sauvignon and oyster is clever but while sizes of oyster don’t correlate its flavour profile, I really prefer a one sip size instead of this huge plump. The unique Double Barrel technique of finishing in aged Irish whiskey barrels has integrated the myriad of flavours and brought extra richness to the palate. So I must emphasize the love for the Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon.
Finishing was beautiful, with Premium Chocolate and French Macaron. A girl will never say no to dessert.
The Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Shiraz and Jacob’s Creek Reserve Shiraz as well as the Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon and Jacob’s Creek Cabernet Sauvignon are quite an interesting qulity. For more information, visit their homepage: www.jacobscreek.com
