With festive around the corner and everyone in the mood for quirkiness, Mak’s Chee Wanton noodle at 1 Utama shopping mall recently launched a super fancy and delicious milk tea in a muscular body shaped bottle. This Champion Milk Tea (RM 6.90) combines the techniques of KamCha (the only international brewing completion on Hong Kong style milk tea) winners and made with 100% Sri Lankan Ceylon tea, the milk tea really quite the seamless marriage of rich brewed flavours and rich classic evaporated milk. This one is classy smooth, slippery and gloriously creamy to also hit you with a wave and perk of refreshing caffeine.
Ruling out this fancy bottle, the smoothness, and velvety robust flavour is actually unrivalled when it comes to Hong Kong milk tea in the mall. It’s really addictive and if you are already a lover of milk tea like me, you’ll love this one.
And while we had some fun drinking from this whacky bottle, I checked out their parcels of cheesy wanton. Once again being the trend setter, Mak’s Chee has created the delicious cheesy wanton- a parcel of fresh prawn with mozzarella and cheddar cheese enclosed in thin deep fried wanton skin that is crazy crispy and addictively unstoppable. Embrace the perpetually busy mall to get a taste of their signature wanton that exemplifies comfort food, but with a twist of the cheesy trend along the line. Crispy tasty with amazing texture on the outside and in it is a burst of fresh shrimp still juicy and sweet, with extra savoury from those cheeses in it even though it would be extra phenomenal with more generous portion of cheese.
Cheesy Wanton isn’t exactly the only thing worthy of a visit here because their refine noodle is something out of the ordinary to what Malaysians are accustomed to when it comes to wanton noodle. Unlike the egg noodle we are all familiar with, this one is looking a lot simpler yet essentially interesting when it comes to the variations derived solely from basic element of wanton noodle- noodle, broth and wanton.
A large Wanton and dumpling soup noodle (RM 16.90) here but is reasonable when every wanton has a whole shrimp with minced pork. Each parcel consistently sealed very nicely to pack all the flavours within every package of both dumpling and wanton.
Every packet of their wanton is filled with plump and fresh shrimp; I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. As for those dumplings, each of them is stuffed to the brim with delicious filling so if you want something more filling than shrimps, dumplings have pork in it but my heart and palate is won over by the Wanton Tendon Soup (RM 14.90).
Although the serving size is tiny but going large really isn’t necessary because another good way to make complete a wholesome meal is some vegetables. Unlike the usual wanton noodle that’s commonly accompanied by the some vegetables, this one has no vegetables in it. But, ala carte has vegetables to add to the meal. Vegetable with Roe Powder comes with that popular shrimp powder usually added to their wanton noodle in Hong Kong. No doubt the smell of dried shrimp powder sprinkled on top of the vegetable really helps stimulating the appetite.
Beverage menu is considered comprehensive with things like Teas and boiled sweet beverages. I had my Osmanthus Oolong Tea (RM 3.90) and Lemon Water Cress ( RM 5.90) and it was decent with nothing much to shout about.
Not to compare to the portion and pricing around our region because at Mak’s Chee Malaysia, it is most likely that the essential slurp experience would be replicated. The street original is an absolute steal despite the slightly expensive price for a very tiny bowl of noodle. Watch this on my snap stories here.
