It’s the time of the year again and yes, this year it’s earlier than usual. So there is hardly any chance for a bit of a breather after Christmas but thats fine because we love the festive mood. Mezze bistro bar at Medan Damansara has launched this year’s Chinese new year menu shortly after their Christmas menu. While chefs all around have gone all out to usher in the arrival of New Year of rooster with auspicious menu, Mezze’s created a series of lunar porky special.
Starting from appetisers offered in the sharing platter, both the Ham Hock Croquettes (RM 19.90++) and Juicy Pork Belly Char Siu Lotus Buns (RM23.90) was surprisingly moist and impressive despite looking a little dull and ordinary.
And celebrating Chinese New Year in style, there is the Pork Platter (RM 98++) that’s showcasing a good East meets west sensibility- a smorgasbord of delight comprising of pork chorizo, bacon, crispy pork belly, black forest ham, juicy pork belly char siu, and toulouse sausage with sides of mash potatoes.
When indulging during the festive in a bistro, undoubtedly expect a series of pork dishes to ring in the Year of rooster. Enjoy the coziness in Mezze with dishes like the Deep fried Pork Knuckle (RM 88+) served with sides of potato salad, brown horseradish sauce and mustard on the side as well as the Smoked Ham Hock Knuckle (RM 88++) featuring their tender smoked Ham Hock served with sides of sauerkraut and brown horseradish sauce.
Everything else also require sharing but hey, that’s exactly what the festive is all about – togetherness. The Toulouse sausage platter (RM 49++) serves 2 pieces of Juicy and delicious minced pork sausages seasoned with 5 spices, white wine and brandy served with sides of mashed potatoes and mustard. To have this on the CNY menu is clever. It reminded me of the Chinese loh bak except this one is juicier when the meat is coarser and tightly secured to retain the juice.
And if soft and moist tickles your fancy, the French BKT (RM 88++) puts up an entire pork knuckle stew. It is infused with honey and sage and lovingly simmered in beef stock with granny Smith apples. There is nothing BKT here except the resemblance at one glance. But served with sides of deep fried flower roll buns (4 pcs per serving), this dish earned applause with the soft knuckle meat that’ll beautifully tear up with very little effort to reveal that fresh pink on the inside.
