Whimsical gelateria & cafe

Bringing the funk with renditions of gelato flavours and made famous by their nasi lemak gelato, whimsical at solaris dutamas (beside publika) continues to create more fun with not just the rotation of fascinating flavours on a daily basis but interesting dishes as well. With a gelato bar sharing it’s outlet facade, scoops of gelato can be conveniently purchased to go.

With gelato being their forte, Cielo Dolci Basil Gelato manifest as cooling dressing on a garden of large Japanese cucumber strips, Romaine lettuce, red + cherry tomatoes. This Tomato Basil Salad (RM 20.90) is garnished with goat cheese, and drizzled with balsamic vinegar reduction.

Cleverly matching the pungent in arugula and earthiness from mushroom, Arugula and Mushroom Salad (RM 26.90) is served with mushrooms underneath and a tiny scattered of arugula (as opposed to the description; a mountain of arugula) on top with a spike of brine from that sprinkled of goat cheese, almond flakes and baguette chips. Topped with poached egg and house dressing.

Ohayo (RM 22.90) greets with cold pasta seared with sashimi tuna rhymed in sesame vinaigrette, cherry tomatoes and crispy garlic chips. Choices of extra toppings don’t come cheap but we topped this with Bacon (RM 5) although absolutely unnecessary.

Sun – kissed Pasta (RM 17.50) made simple with sun-dried tomato pesto blend tossed with linguine, garnished with cherry tomatoes and topped with parmesan and garlic cloves – a simple selection of bountiful flavours.

Proceeding with flavours, smoked duck might just be that safe selection that’ll never go wrong anywhere you go. Whimsical’s Smoked Duck Ginger Aglio (RM 20.90) gave diners smoked duck topped on pasta with classic house blend ginger aglio olio. Continue with Creamy Basil Pesto (RM 25.50) for some grilled Cajun chicken spread on a creamy perfection of linguine coasted with house Genoese basil pesto, Bacon Kaffir Aglio Olio (RM 19.90) for a good combi of Crispy bacon tossed with Kaffir leaf, and Miso Carbonara(RM 20.50) with some oriental flavoura dressed in soy vinaigrette, sprinkled with seaweed strips and shrimp roe.

Despite already astounding when it comes to oasta choices, whimsical redundantly include the Portabello & Bacon (RM 27.60) sandwich, with Portobello mushroom nested among goat cheese, bacon strips, arugula and poached eggs engulfed within a toasted Ciabatta, and accompanied by deep fried frozen fries.

Desserts are probably the best with the many flavours of gelato flavours. Waffle + Double Gelato (RM 18.90) was lovely if not fantastic especially when topped with the right selection of gelato flavour. Take note premium flavoured and alcoholic flavoured gelato comes with extra charges of RM 1 and RM 3 respectively

Cotton Candy Affogato (RM 13) would have already gone viral long ago on social media but I see this one was rather different from how I pictured it. No afro cotton candy for me but I dribbled coffee onto it anyway.

Gelato scoops were really brilliant when it comes to the creativity, and the flavours varies every other day. Like a fairy’s wheels with lotsa fun when picking the assorted availabilities. Myself was mesmerised by Heineken gelato.

Whimsical also take pride on their breverages so both coffee and non coffee drinker woukd have something they like. Iced Whimsical Lemonade (RM 13)-lemonade with vanilla and grapefruit, Japanese Sencha (RM 7), Iced Chai Americano (RM 13) spiced with cinnamon and star anise, and Chamomile (RM 7).
