If you are in the mood for tapas, Olah at Intermark KL offers terrific wines and a cocktail galore, along refined small plates with elaborate combinations of ingredients. With a sleek interior, the sparsely laid out floor plan of the elongated dining room across over the bar is highlighted by spotlights and pendant lights. And conversations buzz at a comfortable low muffle which eventually leads to intimate dining atmosphere.
The start of the meal is already a delight; Marinated olives with aromatized extra virgin olive oil (RM 13) is served in a round glass jar with clamped lid filled with assorted soaking in virgin olive oil. Every bite is fantastically moist and lovely textured with capability to mesmerize any fan of olives.
The olive didn’t stop there just yet because the next one was velvet and impressively also infused with fragrant of garlic and parsley. Boquerones with garlic and parsley oil (RM 17.50) highlights the fresh anchovies already marinated and seasoned with parsley and oil.
Warming up the appetite then is the Pumpkin Soup with Oranges, Beetroot and Broccoli (RM 18), delicately served with cubes of beetroot, broccoli floret buds and refreshingly rewarding those who seek green flavours.
Spanish tapas must not be without Spain’s famous cured ham. And not just regular cured ham, we had the finest. Serving the smooth and rich texture in this savory dish, Bellota Iberico Ham and “pa amb tomaquet” (RM 45) boldly combines all the flavours of toasted bread rubbed with tomato and garlic and drizzled with olive oil.
Olah Tapas also brings the Spanish colour to KL with a not so colourful yet delicious and eclectic paella experience. Keeping it traditional with fresh seafood flavours, the South Mediterranean Seafood Black Rice with roasted ’all i olli’ (RM 42) serves with two langoustines atop squid inked rice with octopus bites that add on some quirky texture while beautifully balancing the flavours.
Another main that was interestingly mesmerizing is their Spanish Suckling Lamb with Milk (RM 39.50). The young lamb is infused with rosemary, reduced with rocket and cardamon sauce. It is highly recommended and perfect for anyone disliking the gaminess of lamb.
Finally, desserts are usually very much looked forward to and in this case, it was more than just a fancy experience. Caramelised Banana with Brandy (RM 20.50) is amusing solely because of the banana ice cream with white chocolate candies. The zapping and bursting sensations of those popping candies inside the ice cream needs only one word to describe; genius.
Also, best to go with tapas is of course one booze or two. Whether it is a raise with bottle of beer or clink of wine glasses, the list of drinks were comprehensive. Selections range from Spanish beer to wine and cocktails to vodkas and more. Effervescent and refreshing, there is the Catalonia’s Cava (RM 28) for those who usually likes champagne and if not, Sangria (Rm 38) is another fruity option.
