We have come to the time when cocktails are being taken so seriously but things are kept easy going with plenty of fun at the Locker & Loft at Damansara Kim. The concoctions of gins, rums, syrups, fruits or even spices is some of the best way to kick off proceedings when sneaking into the hidden restaurant and speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar. There is a feel of distillery and with the stunning and eye catching 25-foot cooper bar, thirst quenching is never an issue at this outlet designed by the owners- Deepak-Gill and Paul Dass themselves.
As soon as I found my way through their locker door, the evening quickly started with cocktails. With also a large selection of imported brews- your gins and rums as well as whiskies, and even our very own Sarawakian Tuak, I’d say their drinks menu is impressive. Attentive staff handed a quick questionnaire just so we could narrow to what the palate prefers. Both diners or drinkers would feel so at home with the dining space with that handsome bar counter but the DIY cocktail bar is where all the fun is when we put our hands on the shaker and craft your very own cocktail with the guidance of their mixologist. Yours truly made a delicious one but really, don’t ask me what I put in there because hey, I can’t be taking notes after those shots and some of their classics and the house cocktails can I ? They are constantly on research and the team puts up new cocktails very frequently to keep things interesting.
Being the first for a cocktail bar to have a full dining menu, Locker & Loft is quite the convenient place for plenty of fun and of course those quirky Malaysian inspired booze to pair with delicious dishes. It’s clearly not all about the drinks because the food menu is equally as impressive. From Tapas to mains and desserts, orders are made from scratch with no msg and plenty of clever use of spices to incorporate some Malaysian inspired flavours. I love the Potato and Bitter Gourd Pakora with a clever incorporation of jackfruit and chilies bundled together with the thinly sliced potatoes and served with mint yogurt dip. The bitter gourd wasn’t apparent and obvious but I actually secretly wished that it would be slightly more prominent.
Also sink your teeth into tender pieces of grilled lamb marinated Masala, skewed and served with mint sauce and flat bread for some Indian flavours or go for some Chinese touch with their Smoked Duck Aglio Olio. Pasta is lightly tossed with smoked duck breast, lap cheong, chili flakes, shitake mushroom, roasted peanuts and cherry tomatoes.
There is apparently a lot more about this place that deserves plenty of spotlight. For music aficionados, the establishment runs Bluesy and Alternative Rock Nights on Tuesdays as well House Sessions on Friday nights, featuring local deejays such as Blastique. And every Sunday os a fun BBQ in the balcony with man’s best friends allowed at the establishment.
