If you have been following my Facebook Page , then you might have already come across some photos of those tips and food facts. The actual fact is that all tea types are from a same plant called the Camellia Sinensis. The herbal tea on the other hand do not consist any part of the tea plant. The Chinese herbal tea, constantly known as medicinal herbal tea is a kind of tea made purely from Chinese medicinal herbs in Guangdong China. Since they don’t contain any part of the tea plant, I would say it is more of a tisane rather than actual tea. Because tisane is a general term for any non-caffeinated beverage made from the infusion or decoction of herbs or any spice like plant material, the herbal tea (also known as leong char) is better categorized as the tisane than tea.
According to the daily mail (2013), Herbal teas are all the rage for the many medicinal qualities they are supposed to possess. It’s claimed they can help with everything from easing a cold and indigestion to fighting infection and nausea. But when choosing a herbal tea remedy, make sure you pick the right one. While fruit flavoured teas – such as rosehip, apple and orange – tend to be delicious, they are developed for their flavouring more than anything else.Herbal teas on the other hand, such as thyme, peppermint and ginger have greater therapeutic virtues.
The Kwong Woh Tong originates from China and slowly expending their business to Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. The outlets grow rapidly upon their arrival in Malaysia. Of which most are allocated in major shopping malls. In the older days, the herbal tea is something you purchase near the door step of traditional medicinal shop. Where else today, shops like this are getting so much lesser by popular demand in most places.
Here in Koong Woh Tong, there are two types of traditional herbal tea to choose from. One that is slightly bitter called the Wong Lou Kat and one that tasted a bit flowerish called the Five Flower Herbal Tea. I really like the first one. When drinking this, it is normally served with plum candy just to relief the bitterness from your palate. I like it even without it. Also available is their remedy medicinal powder to relief flu, cough, heat and or sore throat, which would be added into the bitter tea when consume.
Koong Woh Tong not only specializes in herbal tea but also the herbal jelly commonly known as the Guai Lin Kou. Its beneficial herbal jelly is made from more than twenty Chinese herbs which we believe it not only helps cooling down our inner body but good for our skin too. It is normally served with a pot of honey just so you can add it in to adjust the taste of this cooling jelly.
One can easily identify a Koong Who Tong outlet when you see this huge gold pot. You would never miss this and when you see this, you would know that you are at the right place.
Koong Woh Tong is widely available in major shopping complexes. I had mine in the One Utama outlet. Find your way to them in One Utama at:

I love their guai lin kou! But it’s getting more and more pricey!
Agree.. 🙁
No, thanks. Not into this kind of stuff…and we do not see much of this here, not as popular as in the peninsula.
Before this is commercially sold, it was travelled from china down to the peninsular. Historical and geographical influences. That’s why least popular in east malaysia. It is so interesting how the origin of certain food tells us so much about culture and history. Like I was told yee sang is not as common as it is in the peninsular. I’m very interested with the local food there. I must explore the food there. I’m sure there are lots to learn. 🙂
When I feel heaty….I’ll drop by for their liong cha. Sometimes add the bitter powder. Easy to get them at majority malls ma… 😉
There is a period of time when I’m almost addicted to that bitter tea. Everytime I pass by one in any mall, I have to take one. Good thing the addiction is gone. Come to think of it, must investigate what’s the addictive ingredient. Lol.
Only have their guai ling gou before 🙂
interesting info. i haven’t tried their tea or jelly before. something to look for if i feel the need to detox with herbal ingredients, heh 😀
I’ve not yet acquired a taste for herbal jelly… 🙂
You should try. People said it helps giving you beautiful complexion. LOL ..I don’t know how true…But how much do we have to eat to achieve that right? Haha
I know this outlet! 🙂
I don’t drink their herbal teas but I agree, their kui lin gau is very good.
I love Wong Lo Kat too from the Chinese Medicine Halls or even Koong Woh Tong. Much nicer than the sweet canned or bottled ones. In fact its better that they are taken without the sugar for the herbs to play their part better – well, the sinseh tells melah:P
I think so. Sugar probably just for the taste..
Body heaty now and have been sick for the past few days. Almost forgot about this place and ordered their “special drink”.
They have been always good.

I like Koong Woh Tong, whichever I pass by one of their outlet, I will definetely sit and order their Guai Ling Gou 🙂
gui ling gao is one of the best things to beat the hot weather 🙂
Would always stop by Kwong Woh Tong’s Chinatown branch every time I’m there.
But yeah, the price is steadily increasing. =(
Sigh….totally agree..=(
Thank you for your comment. For your info, price of herbs have been increased steadily too, some are as high as 400%, and we strongly believe, we only serve our customer nothing but the best, and our food with best quality & no preservative.
Your understanding is highly appreciated.
At the branch in tropicana city mall, we underwent a hella uncfotable service; one of the waitresses( short and skinny oldie), who shouted at us by fiercely talking back. We just wanted to drink a cuppa without wasting much time. Despite she ordered(or asked) to wait until their re-tidiness. I really hope her to self exam what she did to her customers. Plus, this company must focus on educating its employees, rather than promote its goods via mass media. What a poor service it is! Tell her behavior herself from today. Biz and service are never related to personal issues and stress.
That’s quite some horrible experience for you. I hope somebody from the company would see this and take note of it.
Thank you for your comment. For your info, the particular staff was given a warning letter, after the management did the investigation & taken all necessary steps to avoid the same happen again. Nevertheless, as your feedback is highly valued. Thanks again.

That’s true, never bring your stress and personal issues to work.
