With just four flavours of ramen, Tokyo Ramen by Mengokoro Kunimoto at Atria Shopping Gallery is quite the appropriate place for swift and comfortable meal. Also, it’s one of the selected few Japanese restaurant with Tsukemen. The interior is bright, polished and neat with selected nook filled with adorable Japanese ornaments. And like many other Japanese ramen joints, the staffs are very friendly.
Service is accommodating and welcoming and at any time, has no queue at the door. With a tiny menu of four ramen and a selective few other staple, smaller dishes are popular amongst group diners but doesn’t warrant such high demand: Gyoza (RM 10.90) were let down by a mushy filling; Ajitsuke Tamago (RM 2.50) had uneven texture and a little overcooked.
A classic bowl of tonkatsu soup usually served piping hot with pork slices, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, seaweed, spring onion and beautiful strands of noodle would be the common favourite for most diners. It was a little salty to my liking and instead of steaming hot, it was served unpalatably lukewarm. Tonkatsu Ramen (RM 19.90) here serves a satisfying portion if bouncy noodles.
They also offer Tsukemen (RM 23.90)- something you don’t see so often at ramen joints. This super chewy dipping ramen paired well with the flavourful soup filled with umami finishing, you wouldn’t be surprised to be seeing anyone draining the bowl once finished with the noodles.
If you are up for rice and curry, their creamy concoction gives you their Chicken Curry (RM 18). The attraction here might not be curry but it’s made with a smooth roux that perfectly complements the rice. Alas, the chicken cutlets were so tiny they were almost nonexistent.
Green Tea (RM 8.70) is served in pots so take your time and sip after you slurp.
