Smoothie and açai bowls snuck onto the food scene several years ago, making this colourful phenomenon hiting social media like an atomic bomb. There is no way if you own an Instagram account that you haven’t stumbled upon these gorgeous bowls filled and topped with loads of fruits and a whole bunch of goodies for texture and health benefits. Their popularity shows sign of consciousness, and hopefully leading to a better lifestyle and way of eating. This beautiful bowl starts with a thick blend of whole foods, usually frozen fruits, veggies and other healthful mix-ins, like my favourite avocado or oats. Compared to the smoothies we’re used to sipping with a straw, the base of a smoothie bowl has a slightly thicker, almost ice-cream like consistency, making this also a beautiful snack on top of being the beautiful breakfast.

While the trend moves so quickly across the world, many countries in the Asia is also picking it up and smoothie joints are gaining much lime lights as well. Being a smoothie bowl enthusiast, I personally made it a point to plan one smoothie bowl experience at every place I visited. I have not too much to say about this one, in Bangkok, except that it’s delicious! This is one that’s focusing on acai so naturally, everything has acai in it. (Assuming there will be people reading this that is somewhat still confused with the term of acai, it is a type of berry and if a smoothie bowl hasn’t got this berry in it, please don’t call it a acai bowl.)

Today’s selection is a blend of acai, banana, blueberry, cacao, strawberry, peanut butter, and rainforest topping of fruits with granola, peanut butter, bittersweet cacao nibs and glistening chia seeds. This place is totally vegan friendly and this tiny little hub cannot get anymore cosier with some plants here and there. I had some memorable memory over at this little cafe when grab had trouble locating it as I was leaving, but the staffs were so friendly and helpful they did their very best to help me out despite their lack of English proficiency when i was obviously hopeless when it comes to speaking Thai. So I’ll take this opportunity to also express huge gratitude.

In their biggest effort to promote sutainable living, cups and bowls are made from bamboo and coconut shells.

Makai Acai, superfood and smoothie bars in Bangkok has a couple of branches but they all offer the same thick smoothies, raw vegan treats, cold brew coffee, herbal tea, and smoothie bowls mainly made of organic acai puree.

Here is their two page menu:
