If you ever find yourself hungry in Jaya shopping mall, this is the place to go: Bari-Uma Ramen attracts patrons with not only their ramen, but the spread of versatility and choices of classic Japanese treats. And like many other ramen joints in town, semi open kitchen is always a delight to watch.
Their hearty bowls of noodles went nicely with the superb slices of meat, while big eaters can order gyoza dumplings to go with the main dish. Gyoza (5pcs for Rm 11 or 20pcs for Rm 20) isn’t our typical Japanese pan fried dumpling. Instead of the usual pork, chicken is wrapped in a nice thin layer of dumpling skin and was superbly juicy. Dipping into the Gyoza sauce further enhances the sweetness of the dumpling, also making this a very lovely appetiser.
Butanegima (pork thigh and leeks) (Rm 5.90) puts together a balance in both flavour and texture while savouring those semi lean pork slices and crunchy leeks.
Ramen comes with an option of three textures just to cater to local palate. Whether you like it soft, normal or hard, make known to them when ordering. The portion was good, sufficient, satisfying and enjoyable with the essence of ramen- the soup, to follow with peppery finishing and very intense umami flavour.
Charred pork slices take the flavour to a higher level and when swimming in the soup, adds more flavour to the ramen. Also contributing to the flavour is the intense flavour of bamboo shot and large sheets of seaweeds, as well as the generous tossed of chopped spring onions.
The toppings add ons are totally versatile and portion were generously luscious.
Their green tea is mildly fragrant with light aromatic roasted aroma but at the same time a little too steep for me.
