As mentioned on my instagram, a clever collaboration between the whisky and coffee has made its way to Malaysia. And it is far from being half- hearted, a branded attempt to tap into the continuous passion and creativity of mixologist Mr Kelvin Lee. Setting up a 2 month menu (starting 13 May onwards) at the Underground Society, Singleton single malt Scotch Whisky introduces Singleton Selects – an exceptionally inspiring move driven to deliver an incomparable dining experience for Malaysians.

This collaboration with Diageo World Class is about as authentic as they come. At the recent media launch; there’s no doubt about it – this has got to be the most authentic and fun pairing event I’ve ever experienced, the guests were briefed the effort and the ultimate goal of the event. With artisan coffee making their way into the heart of many Malaysians, there is a vibrant injection when it comes to bringing both the Singleton Selects x Coffex Coffee. And I’ve experienced it first hand to how this hybrid creates magic.

Showcased at the launch is their creativity and limitless boundaries to witness the neat flexibility of Singleton through this novel pair. Medias, guests, as well as other influencers and I got an opportunity to mix all four exclusive cocktails of premium coffee beans with each Singleton’s distinct expressions- each featuring a Singleton variant:
The Singleton Ethiopia Style– The Singleton of Glen Ord 12 Year Old, with espresso syrup made with Coffex Ethiopia Limu Agora Yukro, honey dew, chocolate syrup, lemon juice and egg white.
Paired with Avocados with Jamaican Pineapple Salsa, Stuffed Mashed Egg, Couscous, Cream Cheese.
The Singleton Presso-Tini – The Singleton of Glen Ord 15 Year Old, with Coffex Ethiopia Limu Agaro Yukro, Earl Grey syrup, lemon juice, and white marshmallow.
Paired with Crispy Chicken with Kimchi Bao.
Next is my favourite of the night, a lovely peanut butter mix with velvety texture of the Singleton Ord 18 Year Old. Plus the torched meringue gave this a fantastic finishing almost semi solid instead of just liquid, I cannot wait to go back for this one.
The Singleton Naughty Butter – The Singleton of Glen Ord 18 Year Old with Coffex Ethiopia Limu Hunda Oli, peanut butter, and macademia nut syrup.
Paired with Aglio Olio with grilled chicken and chili flakes.
Dessert pair also gets a standing ovation from those who fancy stronger caffeine finishing, thanks to those espresso ice cubes as well as affogato and the tiramisu. Be prepared to stay up all night long after this dessert.
The Singleton Kopi Ais- The Singleton of Glen Ord Signature with espresso ice cubes made with Coffex Ethiopia Limu Hunda Oli, and agave syrup.
Paired with Tiramisu and Affogato.
Underground Societe did a reasonable good effort with the carefully crafted recipes inspired by the rich taste of The Singleton, but I would enjoy the cocktails with or without the food. My take is on the Naughty Butter- absolutely delicious.
With Ethiopian being the highlight, every hint of fruity finishing is distinctive but tasting note comes filled with surprises and more sophisticated when this single origin blend of perfectly balanced to yield that ultra smooth and fine texture that’s certainly a treat to the taste bud.
