From 21st January to 25th March, the Flavour of Hanami commenced with a live presentation and tasting by Chef Shogo Sasaki from the famed restaurant IZUU in Kyoto and we were honoured to be a part of this inauguration at none other than the Cube of ISETAN the Japan Store KL. This cherry blossom celebration of authentic Japanese cultural and culinary experience showcasing the flavour of Hanami is presented by the Dai Nippon Printing Co.,Ltd, with gallery introducing the original Hanami bento boxes made especially for this occasion as well as the theatre venue broadcasting a short movie of an insight into the four beautiful seasons of Japan and the foundation of Kyoto food.

Chef Shogo Sasaki, owner chef of Restaurant IZUU and Chef Takeshi Matsuo, head chef of Restaurant IZUU
Considerable to be the best of Japanese cuisine, Kyoto culinary culture retains pure essence of the Hanami, with over decades of skills and knowledge emphasizing perfection and excellence. General Manager of Media Content Planning Department, Dai Nippon Printing Co mentioned that this event creates wonderful opportunity for people to discover the cultural aspects and culinary delicacies associated to the Cherry blossom celebration. Known as the heir of the current 7th generation owner of IZUU, a Kyoto sushi restaurant established in 1781, Chef Sasaki is known for his culinary prowess in preparing the popular mackerel sushi. We are privileged to have the man himself to be prepping two of his signature dishes- Chirasizushi (Scattered Topping Sushi) and Saba-sugatazushi (Whole Mackerel Lightly Matured Sushi). The live presentation includes an interesting tete-a tete session which totally showed the chef’s charisma and charm.
The session ended with a sweet finishing paired with hot green tea. Voluptuously packed with red bean paste, the combination of this glutinous rice dessert was indeed an indeed a memorable one.
